Edward Livingston-Blade's Blog

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007:  Maintaining this blog via HTML and phpBB is a pain in the rear.  I've been doing it for a year now, choosing this way because HTML and phpBB are easy to back up, but the logistics of data management and hyperlinking between the blog pages and the forum (to support reader comments) is surprisingly time-consuming.

Not to mention the human error element -- I corrected a minor goof on Monday I'd made all the way back in February.

The result is that I'm making plans to discontinue the blog in this form and start using one of the public blog services (or maybe some sort of package) that does all the underlying technical stuff for me.  Look for that soonish, and if there are bloggers reading this who use a centralized blog site or blog package, I'd love to know what you use and why you prefer it.

Monday, December 10th, 2007:  Two months ago I opened a MWWT IRC channel on DALnet, but didn't hype it very much.  Now it turns out it's popular, with about four regulars and a couple people who pop in now and then, so I want to start promoting it more.

The channel is #mwwt.  I created it as a general comic/webcomic chat room and for MWWT chat, but it's turned out to be as much a pop culture channel as anything else.

If you're an IRC addict or are just interested in MWWT, I look forward to seeing you there.

If you're unfamiliar with IRC, you probably want to download the mIRC software, which will give you a list of popular networks when you start it up.  The MWWT channel is part of the DALnet network -- after selecting DALnet, mIRC will then probably offer you a list of very general DALnet chat and help channels.  As a special-interest channel the MWWT channel won't be on the list, so you'll need to type in #mwwt or mwwt manually to join our specific DALnet channel.  From there you'll probably figure it out.  Alternatively, you should be able to just click here after installing mIRC, and you should be connected.  I'm "barking_frog", but if I'm not present two or three other MWWT fans probably will be.
